About Sweet Soil Narratives

Rooted in Place. Grounded in Story. Connected Through Community.

Sweet Soil Narratives is a documentary production and cultural storytelling company dedicated to exploring the people, places, and histories that shape our communities. We believe stories are more than something we tell. They are how we remember, connect, make meaning, and better understand the world around us. Through documentary filmmaking, immersive cultural experiences, and community-centered programming, we create opportunities for people to engage with stories in ways that go beyond the screen. Our work is rooted in the American South, where land, history, culture, and community are deeply connected. We are especially interested in stories that have been overlooked, underrepresented, or passed down through generations but rarely shared with wider audiences. Whether we’re producing a documentary, guiding an immersive experience, or bringing people together for a film screening and conversation, our goal is to create space for stories to be shared, perspectives to be expanded, and meaningful connections to take shape.

What We Do

Documentary Filmmaking & Storytelling

We produce documentary films that explore history, culture, identity, and community. Our approach centers the voices and experiences of the people whose stories we tell, with an emphasis on thoughtful collaboration, historical context, and authentic representation. From uncovering overlooked histories to documenting contemporary experiences, we use film to preserve stories, spark conversations, and invite audiences to see familiar places and experiences in new ways.

Immersive Cultural Experiences

Some stories are best experienced in the places where they happened. Our immersive experiences connect participants with the history, culture, and people of a place through curated visits, storytelling, conversations, and hands-on learning. We bring together local knowledge, cultural traditions, historic sites, and community voices to create experiences that go beyond traditional tours. These experiences are designed to encourage curiosity, connection, and a deeper appreciation for the communities and histories we encounter.

Screenings & Community Conversations

We believe the conversation that happens after a film can be just as meaningful as the film itself. Through public screenings, facilitated discussions, and community gatherings, we bring people together to reflect on the stories we share and explore their connections to our lives and communities today. We also partner with universities, museums, cultural organizations, and community groups to develop screenings and programs that encourage learning, dialogue, and engagement.

Our Approach

Community-centered. We believe the people and communities whose stories are being shared should have a meaningful role in how those stories are told and experienced.

Rooted in place. We pay attention to the relationships between land, history, culture, and the people who call a place home.

Grounded in relationships. We approach our work through listening, collaboration, and respect for the knowledge and experiences people bring.

Beyond the story. We think about what happens after a film ends or an experience concludes, and how storytelling can open doors to continued learning, connection, and action.

Let’s Tell Stories Together
